The charitable purpose of Milton Rural Landcare Inc. is to advance the natural environment.

The activities of Milton Rural Landcare Inc. are:

• Propagation and supply of native plants.

MRL operates a native plant nursery to produce native plants for revegetation projects in degraded, natural areas, and generally for conservation of biodiversity and preservation of habitat for wildlife. Plants are sold to local, state and federal government, bush regenerators, community groups, and the general public to cover the nursery’s costs of operation. Plants are periodically donated to identified worthy causes for environmental repair.

• Education about native plants.

MRL’s experience and knowledge of propagation techniques for local native plants are shared with educational institutions and community groups via organised visits or workshops. MRL volunteers provide plant advice to nursery customers.

• Promotion of the use of native plants in gardens and on rural properties.

MRL volunteers present at meetings of relevant interest groups. They also participate in community events such as open days, fetes and markets, to promote the use of local native plant species for conservation of biodiversity, and to distribute information about Landcare, Bushcare and biodiversity issues generally.

• Participation in community planting events.

MRL volunteers participate in community planting events to restore degraded environments.

Not for profit nature of Milton Rural Landcare Inc (MRL)

(a) The income and property of MRL:

(i) must be applied solely towards the Charitable Purpose; and

(ii) must not be paid or given to a member (other than an eligible organisation to

pursue objects or purposes similar to the Charitable Purpose), directly or

indirectly, by way of dividend, bonus or otherwise.

This rule does not prevent MRL from paying a member or officer a reasonable and

proper amount, with the committee’s prior approval, in good faith, for goods or

services supplied to the organisation.

(b) If MRL is a registered charity under the ACNC Act, then despite anything to the

contrary in this constitution, MRL is established:

(i) solely to be a not for profit, charitable and benevolent institution; and

(ii) to pursue not for profit, charitable and benevolent purposes in Australia only.

History

In 1998 Milton Rural Landcare Inc was formed by an enthusiastic group of likeminded people who saw the need to produce local native plants for farms and gardens in the Milton-Ulladulla area.

Shoalhaven City Council in Ulladulla kindly let us have a small parcel of land with a modest building and Milton Rural Landcare was born. Plants were propagated and housed in polystyrene boxes on the ground. A back breaking job for the volunteers.

Upgrades

Over the years, boxes have been replaced with new 50mm tubes and trays, plants have been lifted off the ground onto tables, a new dry weather work area has been erected and a new larger shade house built. Decorative gardens are planted to welcome clients.

Our Process

Plant material is sourced and grown from local provenance material and propagated by seed, cutting or division. Plants are then grown on in 50ml tubes. These tubes are used for revegetation projects by local Bushcare groups, Shoalhaven City Council projects, National Parks & Wildlife Service, Office of Environment and Heritage, Local Land Services, Shoalhaven Landcare, local schools, landscapers and home gardeners.
